(Solved) My Scanner won't work on Jaunty.... It worked ok on another linux o/s

I have a Epson all in one.
Jaunty recognised it when I plugged it in and configured the printer side.
I tried xsane and it gave advice that Scanner could not be found.
I downloaded the i-scan and i-scan plugins from the Epson linux drivers site .When I choose Ubuntu from the list of linnux distros it only gives RPMs
These were in RPM so I converted them to .Deb with alien.
I then installed them with jaunty's package manager and it said they both installed ok.
I cannot open iscan in konsole.
I recently switched linux o/s from Pclinuxos where it worked perfectly with xsane and even kooka after I installed the i-scan rpms.
but I can't get it on jaunty.
Any clues..... I'm still a newb

Working now, I installed lib-sane extras in the repos but had to uninstall iscan first as there was a conflict
