SHould I install new graphic drivers?

Hi guys.

there are new drivers for my graphics (ati radeon 2400) released. Since now I havent used the proprietary drivers, only the default.

Should I install these new drivers? Will it speed up sth? Eg. desktop effects are not smooth right now etc.

well I have exactly the same graphics card and recently successfully installed the fglrx drivers but it is maybe only 90% successful ...it flickers on start up a little but it did mean I could get compiz working properly which is great. This came after many unsuccesful installs ( that are linked to my lack of knowledge

I have found it really hard in the past to go back to vesa drivers when it went wrong.
