No sound on HP Pavilion tx2510us laptop

    Hey ya'll...

Can't get sound working on my laptop. Running Kubuntu 9.04 with all the current updates. About the only fix I have tried is turning the volume up all the way on all devices. No go. I've made sure nothing is muted, everything cranked- no sound. It lists a plethora of audio outs, I'm not interested in using external speakers- I'd like to use the ones integrated into the laptop. lol

To give ya'll a heads up- I'm still rather new to Linux. I've been dabbling with Kubuntu and Ubuntu since I want to say the 7.10 build (or whatever it was)... but nothing more than just dabbling. I used to be a rather hardcore gamer so Windows was my primary OS. But my roots are MS-DOS and windows 3.1- hence my interest in Linux as it has a rather robust command prompt (or so I've heard).

I know next to nothing about the "terminal" other than that is what ya'll call the command prompt. Most of my time with these two distros has been using the GUI. And even then the usage has been minimal. So, in short- I'm a rookie. I'm not opposed to firing up the command prompt (terminal, as ya'll call it)- just have no idea what to do or where to begin once I get it open. lol

Thanks for any and all suggestions! They're *very much* appreciated.

      Howdy!

Did this already. But it is the only fix I tried. I went so far as to have it list all devices... and I cranked the volume on EVERYTHING- including the PCM. Still no go.

I've yet to hook any speakers up to the laptop- but I really don't care whether or not that works as I want to use the laptop's speakers. Far more convenient than having to lug some external speakers around with me. I'd like to get everything functional on this rig... want to play back DVDs and the like, my MP3s, etc. If I have to convert to other formats I can cross that bridge when I get there. Right now I just want to get it all running right. Everything (hardware wise) seems to work fine. Wireless, 3D acceleration... all works fine. Just no sound.

Might it be a driver issue? If so, how in the world do I check the driver? And how in tar-nations do I go about "updating" the driver- assuming there is an updated driver? Or... might I have to select a different output? If so- again how do I go about doing this?

Thanks again for all ya'll help!

well sence Kmix is showing controles and trying to let you work with the sound means it's probley not a driver ishue ......just someting stuped we havent thought of yet........if you have some ear buds or speekers try them to see if we have audeo out.....and if it's just a internal speeker ishue .........then try the FN kye's (if eney) to see if the BIOS has them turned down.......speeking of BIOS you mite want to check the BIOS setings and make sure it's using the internel sound card..(I'm prity shure it is but mite as well see)

Note sure if this link will help: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestin...viliontx1220ca

Adding either of the following to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base worked for me:
          Code:
          options snd-hda-intel model=hp
          or
          Code:
          options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig
