Printing on USB printer still a no-go!

Since upgrading to Jaunty from Intrepid, I have not been able to print to my USB connected HP5610. The hp-setup utility finds the printer and configures it just fine, but when I try to print anything I get a "communication error." It seems that something was broken in the upgrade, so I went back to the liveCD and was able to print from that environment, so I set up a chroot'ed partition and did the whole apt-get update, upgrade, install cycle and nothing seems to help.
I also have a Jaunty install on my acer aspire one and if I need to print anything I plug it into my netbook. Not an optimal solution.

Is there anything that I can remove/reinstall that might fix this problem?

    Thanks.

try it in another USB port on your PC and see if it still does it,

Rather than using the HP setup utility, have you tried setting up your printer via system settings?
