New video driver repo for jaunty

    I came across this today:
    http://webupd8.blogspot.com/2009/05/...epository.html

Fred posted a comment referring to ati 9250 pro cards.

    Quote:
    Thank you for the repo.
    Just a thought though,
will those drivers work with ATI radeon 9250 pro card? I hear that they are no longer supported.
I was wondering the same thing.

Any body enlightened for a answer?

I can't be 100% percent on this (since I haven't installed the driver from the repo), but I doubt the support has been dropped...http://www.x.org/wiki/radeon

Note that the repos are for the latest open source drivers (ati/radeon/radeonhd), not propietary (fglrx). support for older cards have been dropped from fglrx, not (to my knowledge) from the open source driver.

The open source driver generally works very well with ATI 9000 series (in my experience better than fglrx ever did), though you may need to add some options to xorg.conf to get the best performance from your card ('man radeon' and google can tell you about the options).

Of course the drivers in the repo are latest git snapshots and may contain bugs, so not recommended for production use.

EDIT: the alternative radeonhd driver does not support older ati cards though

          Thank you kubicle,
i am using the default open source drive now on both JJ and II.

Works fine, except for FF with long joomla admin sessions (more than 15min) my JJ becomes very slow so I was thinking if I upgraded the driver this might help get JJ to run more smoothly.

Hmm... I will try it later when I feel a bit adventurous.
