How long for your laptop to resume from standby?

I have a dell laptop, and in windows, it resumes fairly quickly, but in Kubuntu it takes quiet a while (~20-30 seconds)...is this normal? It has been like this across multiple versions (8.10 and 9.04), and fresh installs. I have even tried a different distro, and it was the same result (openSUSE)...

anyone have any insight?

My Compaq takes about 20 seconds also. I never really thought about it, because it seems to take longer in Vista.

My non-laptop takes about ...wait... 10 seconds. There's a TV card that won't wake up properly and spews a screenful or two of error messages across te console every time: I believe this accounts for most of that time.
