    Printer problems

    After upgrading to jaunty, my printer does not work anymore.
    Hplip keeps saying "Device communication error"

    I have the same problem. HP5610, keep getting communication errors; only started happening after Jaunty upgrade. Connected via USB.
    While this is not a widespread problem, there are other posts concerning the same issue.

        Make sure your user is a member of both "lp" and "scanner" groups.

            I'm also in the lp, scanner, lpadmin groups. Still no go.

              The only way I have gotten my printer to work is to run the following:
              Code:
              lsusb
              find my printer in the output use the Bus value and the Device value in:
              sudo chmod 777 /dev/bus/usb/<three digit usb bus>/<three digit usb device>
              But this only works until I reboot.
              Then I need to do it again.

                Have you tried plugging the printer into another USB port on your PC, it could be that the one you are using is causing problems.
                It's happened to me before.
