DV video in Kubuntu 9.04 beta

I just had to start trying. My main area of work is professional video and film editing and after finding Kdenlive, I had to check it out. So I connected my Sony DV camera to the laptop through firewire. But I can not get it to connect in Kdenlive. I will not ask any questions regarding that software here :-)

BUT - I checked this guide

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Firewire

and then took a look at my devices.

The only device I have that I guess has anything to do with firewire, is /dev/dv1394-0 and this is not the same as mentioned in the article in the link.

    I tried this command:

    Code:
    sudo modprobe raw1394 dv1394-0
and I have a raw1394 device now. But still no luck connecting. I will of course post in the Kdenlive forum as well, but if anyone has any experience with firewire/dv video on Kubuntu, let me know what you have found out so far.

Re: DV video in Kubuntu 9.04 beta

I found some more good info here:

    http://kdenlive.org/forum/canon-dv-c...-over-firewire

    and here:

    http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/...rewire-capture

According to the last one, the firewire stack in my Kubuntu 9.04 beta is what they call the old one. What gives? Is there a new one on it's way for Kubuntu?

I see some further guidance on how to use the "old" firewire stack -- did you try finding the udev configuration file, and making those edits?

Nope. I need to find out more about the firewire stack first. Don't want to start a lot of work and then have to do all over again because things changed.

So I need to figure out the answer to the questions in my former post first.
