external harddrive doesnt open in jaunty computer anymore

I was transferring 26gb of information from jaunty computer where i put ntfs harddrive in and started to copy information to external hdd, for some reason computer froze (first time and wasnt after updating) and i had to reboot but after reboot while still showing external hdd i cant access it from that computer although it runs fine from vista computer. Error message said something about - HALdevice unknown failure $mftmirr doesnt match $mft record0, input output error ntfs is either inconsistent or theres hardware fault. As i like to use external harddrive in that computer too i would like to fix it... Any ideas

Edit: i got it working again simply by doing chkdsk on external harddrive. Looks like simply linux ntfs driver cant read ntfs partiton at all if theres faulty data on it.

Have a look at this post on unclean shutdown of NTFS partitions -
