Digital Camera (PtP) Application That Works

On a Week-Old fresh install of Intrepid...

DigiKam does not recognise camera (multiple Nikon D50's) when plugged into USB... And will not import photos.

I have four employees who will need access to this functionality and I DO NOT want them using Dolphin to extract/copy photos from cameras... For the obvious reasons.

I would dearly appreciate information on "repair" of DigiKam or a suggestion of other app that does actually work. I've tried the "support" on the DigiKam site... ughhh. And there's little information here.

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

are there any error messages shown?

you may wish to install a newer digikam

but that also entails upgrading to kde4.2. So you might as well upgrade to Jaunty then. From my quick glance at launchpad bug reports, there are a few reports of camera ptp/usb mounting conflicts in Intrepid's kernel, so maybe jaunty may work better.

you can also try out fspot, a gnome photo manager with similar features. Most of the reports were using fspot, but both digikam and fspot use the same backend for p2p

And it really isn't obvious why Dolphin is not a good choice, outside the fact that it doesn't do any photo management tasks

May very well upgrade/update to Jaunty as this install of Intrepid has been nothing but a pain all week long. Installed this day last week and Jaunty launched just a day or so ago.

The obvious?... Would YOU want 4 employee who didn't know squat about a "file system" to do more than simply plug in a USB cord?
