    Knetwork manager not working anymore

    Hi,

I have a problem with my Knetwork manager, the description is a little bit long...

I installed kubuntu 8.10 few days ago and tested the wifi connection with two different encripted access point without any problem.

Today I tried to connect to an ADSL network, I did the same as I did with my kubuntu 8.04 version (that worked perfectly):

    1) first connect to the network via a WPA key

    2) run pppoeconf

I got my wonderfull IP address in DHCP and apparently the operation was successfull (plog gave the same output as the former kubuntu version). However, even if ifconfig and iwconfig seemed to be ok, I could no connect to internet.

A small hint could be that the command

    Code:
    pon dsl-provider
with kubuntu 8.04 was straightforward while now does not accept the autocompletion with the tab key and requires the sudo.

I then played a little bit with the settings and read tons of posts in order to try to understand what was happened but the result is that I probably messed up the configuration. The sad result is that now Knetwork does not even see the available networks around (here the access point are not present but only ADSL).

    If I run

    Code:
    sudo iwlist scan
I can see that a couple of ADSL connections are there but Knetwork does not see anything and apparently does not allow me to do anything, the icon is a green world and not the vertical blue bar showing the power of the connection.

I would be happy to at least restore the original situation and then, maybe, retry the ADSL connection. I'm now connected with my father's WindowsXP laptop and can not accept his jokes anymore... >

As usual, thanks in advance and have a nice evening,
    g.

The update yesterday killed the network-manager on my wife's acer aspire 3000 laptop. I used b43-fwcutter to pull the firmware out of the chip and it worked from the time I installed Jaunty until yesterday.

I plugged a cat5 eth cable from my wireless router to her laptop and installed wicd from the repository. That program worked very nicely, so she is up and running again on the wireless.

Darn. I had seen a few people having success with the KDE network applet and had hoped it was fixed, but I guess it is not.

I am having no problem with it on my Sony VAIO and I had updated yesterday too. Her wireless chip is a broadcom 4318 and my chip is an Intel WiFi Link 5100. Perhaps the problem is hardware related?
