    how to group open windows on the main KDE Panel?

    Hello All,

    I am still new to KDE 4.1.4. I have a question on the KDE panels (probably I should be posting this question on the KDE forums).

    I would like to group all the open windows (applications) on the main KDE panel (like in windows XP). This was possible in earlier version of KDE. It is also possible in Gnome Ubuntu. This issue is solved here for Ubuntu: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=500530

    Can someone tell me how this is possible in KDE 4.1.4? Thanks a lot!

    Guys,

    A correction. Actually I don't know the current version of KDE I am using. I went to KDE help and clicked 'About'. It showed the version as 4.1.4.

    But I think it could be 4.2. I just used the KDE version that came with Kubuntu 8.10. Thanks again!

      Right click on the taskbar and select task manager settings and set the grouping as desired.

        Thanks mando_hacker for replying! But in KDE 4.1.2, we only have the main panel. There is no task bar. When I right click on the panel, I don't see any way of setting these options.

        So any other suggestions?

          In 4.2.1 they seem to refer to the part of the panel that contains the window icons as a taskbar. If you right click in that area but not on an icon you will see the choice, I think.

            My recollections may be wrong, but I think taskbar grouping options are features of 4.2 (and not available yet on KDE 4.1.x)

              Thanks guys for replying back. So kubicle in this case is the best option for me is to update to KDE 4.2 from KDE 4.1.2. Do you have experience with KDE 4.2. Did you come across any problems with it?

                I'm currently running 4.2.1 on Jaunty. I can't say it is completely bug free (nothing really is), but in my opinion it is a lot better than 4.1.x (and more stable)

                  Ok, I will upgrade to KDE 4.2 and see how it is. Hopefully in that version this issue is resolved.
