earphones does not work with language program

Hi, any ideas - I have Kubuntu 8.10 on a HP Laptop -
earphones does not work with a language program, although it works with Amarok (so the earphones are working!).- the language software program has voice icons which gives pronunciation when clicked but no sound results at present. What could be the issue? any ideas? (the language program does work in MS and it did work previously in Feisty - but I have not tried it since then and now it does not work). The program works well in 8.10 exept for the sound.

Re: earphones does not work with language program

It would be helpful to know:
    1) What is the language program called?
    2) Is the language program natively Windows or Linux?
    3) What exactly is the model of your HP laptop?

Presumably it is not that your earphones don't work, per se. It is that your sound card is not working with earphones ... Or if you don't attach earphones are you getting sound through the laptop speakers?

Re: earphones does not work with language program

      Hi arochester,
      I hear you
will this help? - the language program is available for both MS and Linux. I'm using the Linux version.
I presumed that because the earphones worked with Amarok, both the sound card and the earphones were working.
But as you point out - there is no sound when I click the voice icons > both with the speakers of the laptop as well as with the earphones, so perhaps the soundcard is where the problem lies? Amarok works both with laptop speakers and the earphones - the HP laptop is a Pavilon, dv4000
      does this info help?
