    KDE4.2: MacOS-Like Menu Bar at Top of Desktop...

    Dell Inspiron E1505
    Kubuntu 8.10
    KDE 4.2 (Migrated from 3.5.10)

    One of my user account is dedicated to webdev, and under KDE 3.5.10 for this account I used a MacOS-like theme that provided app menu bars at the top of the desktop for KDE apps.

    Now after the 4.2 upgrade I have KDE apps like Konsole with NO MENUs...

    ...any tips, suggestions or instructions to rectify this?

    Thanks for those that respond!

    I am not sure what you mean by:

    Konsole is under kmenu / lancelot->system

    To add a new panel to the top right click on the desktop deaktivate "lock widgets" and choose "add a new panel" (or similar, mine is in german).
    You get a new panel at the top which you can populate and resize at will.

    To add apps just open kmenu/lancelot and drag / drop the apps to your new panel.

    If you are missing an app in kmenu / lancelot just open up kmenueditor (right click on kmenu / lancelot) and use that to add your apps.

    Have a look at my desktop:

      @Fintan:
      I think the problem is missing application menubars (File, Edit etc.)

      @Quasaur:
      These kind of problems can occur if you're using your old kde3 settings (in ~/.kde directory), some kde3 settings may not be compatible with KDE4.

      Try editing .kde/share/config/kdeglobals, find the line macStyle=true, and change it to false. This should bring back the menus (though you may need to relog into kde)

      As for similar MacOs like menubar functionality in KDE4, there is a plasma widget called xbar that promises to do it (haven't tried it, though). The package 'plasma-widget-xbar' is available at least in Jaunty's repos.

      Description:
      A plasma widget providing a topscreen menubar and a taskbar similar to Mac OS X.
      It works better if the KDE4 Bespin widget style is in use.
      (so you may want to also install and use the bespin style, package 'kde4-style-bespin', there's also a "matching" window decoration 'kwin4-style-bespin'. Bespin isn't my favorite theme, but it is rather "maccish".
