    Amarok 2 Database Issues

I have looked around briefly and cannot find an answer to my question/issue.

There seems to be a problem with Amarok 2's database storage. ID3 tags are constantly being ignored/changed, artwork is not being saved or is being mixed up, and any changes I make to files within my collection outside of Amarok are not being correctly updated.

I had fixed all of this once by removing my ./kde/share/apps/amarok folder and restarting amarok, but I don't feel that I should have to do this every time something goes wrong.

    Is anybody else experiencing this?

On the Amarok forum there is a lot of comments related to these problems. I had some problems with mine and I'm not sure which action fixed it. I went through all the file names and titles and removed any foreign characters or unusual special characters. I used EasyTag to do this for titles as Amarok 2 was not functioning for me yet. I used KRename for the files removing spaces, quotes, brackets, and all other stuff. I had to review them manually for foreign accented characters. I say that as primarily an English speaker. I found the file names needed to be cleaner in my case.

Then I changed my file structure, I had close to 7,000 files in one directory, and I arbitrarily split them into 500 file directories. This made some changes easier to manage with EasyTag and KRename. Then I got mp3check and ran it on all my files and did a bit of cleaning up using it also. I cleared all the config files and re-ran Amarok and a full scan. Now it works great. As I said, I'm not sure which of these actually cleared the problems.

From my reading I think there is an issue with the SQL related to the new mysql database structure and another related to the number of errors found in files during a scan run. For all the details go to http://amarok.kde.org/forum/ and do a search on "scan stops" or "scan broken" and you should find most of the comments.

If you start Amarok 2 from a terminal session you can see all the error messages it outputs.

    Good luck.

Thanks! I had a feeling that it was with the new database structure. I also understand that Amarok 2 is still in its infancy so in time it will mature to be the workhorse that 1.4 was.

For the time being I'll just be patient.

That is why I am sticking with 1.4.10 until 2.x is feature complete. I am willing to try out beta software for a lot of things, but not when it involves my music collection. 1.4.10+mysql is pure goodness for my 70k+ collection, although I am thinking about recompiling ubuntu's 1.4.9.1 release for hardy on my kubuntu intrepid install (or jaunty jackalope in the near future) for its purported better handling of m4a files.

I have Amarok 2 installed and have had enough problems
that I'm now using Songbird. Songbird is far from perfect
but for my usage its very stable. My problems with Amarok
are id3 tags and album art. I will return to Amarok when
          it becomes alittle more usable.
