    DVD playback

    I have Kubuntu 8.10 running and I'm having problem playing encryted DVDs. I have some ripped DVDs that I've tried with DragonPlayer, Kaffeine and VLC and it works fine in all of them, but when I try to play an encryted DVD it won't work in any of the players. I've tried "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras" and "sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras" and those didn't do the job. Any ideas?

    Setup 'buntu to enable the medibuntu repository (google is your "how-to" friend here - just search for medibuntu and follow the instructions) and install the libdvdcss2 package.

      awesome, thanks. If anyone else has the same problem, here are the steps I took.

      sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/intrepid.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

      then

      sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get update

      then

      sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

      and encrypted DVDs worked!

        Excellent! Can you please edit the title of your thread as solved so it may be seen by others as a possible solution to their issue?

        Thanks
