Font Size Problem (Accessibility Option for Visually Impaired?)

I'm using "Ubuntu 8.10", fully updated, in VMWare with "VMwareTools-7.8.4-126130.tar.gz".

I couldn't find a "Virtualization" section, and don't have a real linux box to test, so hope this is okay. Resolution seems to affect generic font size in my Linux, is this known, a way to turn it off?

    --Situation Normal--
If the resolution in Ubuntu is small (IE 800x600), and I open Eclipse/Dolphin/Anything everything looks normal. I can then put the resolution to my normal screen size (1600x1200), with the app still up, and the fonts all look like they should (smaller).

    --Situation Bad--
If the resolution in Ubuntu is large (IE 1600x1200), and I open Eclipse/Dolphin/Anything, all the fonts are way too big (like 22pt). It looks like GTK, or something, is detecting the large resolution and trying to adjust the font size so that I can see it, which is an inconvenient.

    --2nd Test--
I've also tested it on my other windows computer which uses 1920x1200 resolution, and I get the same result (IE I have to open Eclipse in the small 800x600'ish resolution, and then increase the resolution to the screen size, with Eclipse Opened, to look normal).

I can provide more information, or how I create the VM if it is useful. VMware adjusts the resolution, on window resize, with their VMTools which is why I noticed it was a resolution thing that was causing the font size to increase. It looks like the visual size of the font stays the same eventhough it should look a lot smaller at 1920x1200, which is why I thought maybe GTK or something is adjusting the text; Maybe like an "Accessibility" Option for the visually impaired someplace?

Big thanks if you could suggest something, or had this problem before.

Re: Font Size Problem (Accessibility Option for Visually Impaired?)

I was able to fix it by going to the "Start > Computer > System Settings > Appearance > Fonts" section and change the following:

Force Fonts DPI: Disable --> Force Fonts DPI: 96 DPI

Now no matter when I open an application (with huge resolution or not) the fonts all look like they should. Thanks, and hope it helps someone else if they have this problem.

Note: I also noticed that Ubuntu 9.04 (next release) mentions Font Size Optimizations which may fix the problem, with VMWare's window/resolution resize, without the Force Fonts DPI option *crosses fingers*.
