mysql question

I'm researching about mysql. In reading though the forum i found that the actual data is stored in /var/lib/mysql.

can I make mysql save my data to a folder in my home directory. My project might be really large and i don't want it busting my root partition (10 GB) as opposed to my home partition 80GB
