    Amarok Music Source

With OpenSuse i could 'Add Media' and point to my Seperate Windows (NTSF) H/drive, and Amarok would import the music it and watch the folder for changes. I cannot seem to do this in Kubuntu. There appears to be no option to go anywhere apart from the /Home directory when adding media.

The drive is mounted and visable as i can both read/write to the drive. Would some kind person help please.

    Regards

When you open up amarok you should have a configure collection Icon (or similar, mine is in german) on the second toolbar on the right.

It looks like a set of cogs.

Click on that and you can choose the folders you want to include in your collection.

    Hope that helps

Make a link from your music partition to your home directory. Then it "looks like" it is in the home directory, to Amarok.

Odd way of doing stuff but i tried and got the error message -

          The desktop entry file
          /home/barry/Hard Disc Device
is of type FSDevice but has no Dev=... entry.

I think you're trying to link a device, and you need to link a directory.

Maybe you could make a new directory in the user's home folder, for example /home/barry/songs, and then link the files on the other device in to that, if they're just saved on a disk partition and not in a directory.

Sorry i'm very slow on this but please bear with me.

I can see no indication in any right click menu or menu (if thats what your saying), to 'link' the files to the 'Songs' folder.

              Regards

If you open Dolphin and either "split" the window, or open a second instance of Dolphin, then on one side you can view your user folder, and I'll assume you made a "songs" or "music" folder in it, so open that and you'll be looking at blank white space.

Now in the other window or instance of Dolphin, browse to your music source partition. Highlight all the files that you want to be available. With the files all highlighted, drag them to the empty partition. When you release the mouse, it should pop up a menu that includes "copy", "move", and "link here". You want to choose "link here". All the files will appear with a little arrow on them, indicating they are links.

Now you can close Dolphin, run Amarok, and point it to your new folder with all the linked music. It should see them as music files and load them up, in its own good time.

Yep, and whole lotta disk space! 8)

p.s. That's a great way to make your zillion photos available in the /home/user folder too. Just leave them on their own data partition, and link them in.

I can't say if there's this option in Amarok, but in Amarok 2, in Settings>Configure Amarok> Collection and then choose the folders for Amarok 2 to watch for media. After you make changes to folders, just click on Tools>Update Collection. Of course your drives have to be mounted for this, so if they're not automatically mounted, Amarok 2 won't update the collection.
