Cannon PowerShot not recognized in any prog

Intrepid KDE 4.1.4 (and even before the update) wouldn't recognize my Cannon PS A590 IS. Feisty would recognize it and open with Konqueror as soon as I would plug it in. Obviously it's not the case with Intrepid. I tried digiKam and tried the Digital Camera (in Sys Sett>Advanced) and no luck. Even when I add it in there manually, can't do anything with it. Is this another bug, or am I doing something wrong? KDE4 still new to me

Yep, just get one of these:

and it won't matter what Digikam can or can't read. You can use Dolphin and copy the files to wherever you keep them.

Cannon PowerShot A610--also had such issues--the 1-800-- Cannon support (free) is pretty good; they may be able to walk you through some settings in Kubuntu; worth a try. Mine just works with DigiKam, but it didn't work in XP; they fixed it, and maybe can in Kubuntu, also.

Tnx for all the answers. So it's not me doing something wrong, that's what I wanted to know.

DigiKam is not important prog to me, I haven't used it in Feisty, there I used to just copy the pics I wanted from the card using file manager. My problem is that Intrepid won't recognize it, not just DigiKam, I've only installed DigiKam to see if it'll work with it and it won't.

@dibl: Tnx for the suggestion about card reader, I was hoping to manage my pics without getting the card out every time, but if that's the only solution...

@Qqmike: Since XP recognizes it, Feisty recognizes it, somehow I doubt that Cannon support will have the answer, but thanks for the idea.

In my case, it worked in XP, but then after a defrag/rearrangement of files, some esoteric setting got changed, and it wouldn't work; so that's what I was thinking; I found Cannon support (on that day!) to be exceptionally sharp.
