Every time I start KMail, I can see the folder list and the message list just fine. But if I click on a message, it comes up blank in the reading pane. This can be fixed by going to Settings-->Appearance-->Layout and clicking a different button (doesn't matter which one) and saving the settings. But when KMail starts again, the reading pane is blank again. So, I'm constantly switching from "Long Folder List" to "Short Folder List" to fix the problem. No one setting fixes it for good. I know there is some flakiness with KDE 4 and nVidia drivers. Could that be a possible cause? Any ideas on a fix?

i'm still on kde4.1.4.
i have one of the latest nvidia drivers (-180, i think).
everything works fine here and i'm not going to update.
this said...
it's unlikely that a general issue with either kde4.2 or nvidia drivers affect kmail alone.
2 things i would do:
a) check files ownership in my home dir (especially in .kde) from konsole
any file output by the find command is a potential source of problems (especially if it's a file from .kde)Code:cd find . ! -user your_username -exec ls -la {} \;
b) try rebuild the indexes for your emails in your kmail folders (right-click on folder, then rebuild...)

I can't find any permissions issues related to anything KMail (but I did find one other one unrelated). I still think this related to something in the display driver. The text in the reading pane immediately comes back when I toggle the Short folder list/Long folder list settings. When Kmail first starts, what I see in the reading pane is either a gray/black checkerboard or information from another window, like the browser. Clickoing on an individual e-mail makes the pain go blank. So, I toggle the setting mentioned above and everything comes back. If I close KMail and start it again, I have the same problem all over again.Comment
