When I tried installing latest version 3.0.6 of Firefox with "apt-get install firefox-3.0", it appeared that 51 GNOME packages would be installed as the result of resolving dependencies in addition to the 2 Firefox packages.
Someone (don't remind his name) from the IRC channel #kubuntu kindly gave me the trick :
# apt-get --no-install-recommends install firefox-3.0
and I was able to install only two packages. So far, it looks like Firefox works just fine.
