KDE - Gnome USB mount battle

Every time I plug a usb drive into by kubuntu (8.10) system, kubuntu does a great job of mounting it. However, I also get a gnome-style popup that alerts me that it "failed to execute child process 'gnome-mount'". This may have started (although I am not 100% sure) after I installed the ubuntu usb-boot disk creator through adept. However, I have now purged the install and the program persists.

After reading other threads, I am pretty sure that I could just install gnome-mount and get the error message to go away. However, that would probably just result in the nautilus opening the drive. I am happy with the way that KDE is dealing with my USB drives, and don't really need a redundant gnome action every time I plug in a drive. What can I do to stop this process from starting?

    thanks
