upgrade to kde4.2, after login the screen stays blank

Jesterday i upgraded my system to kde 4.2, following the instructions on kubuntu.org.
After logout i restarted X, and since then my screen stays blank after the login screen,
I mean it's not black, the login screen wallpaper, background or whatever is still visible
just the desktop does not appear...

Before the update i had to remove the package kde-workspace-data and another
called something like plasmoid plugins i think, because some of their files couldn't
been overwritten ( thats what synaptic told me ). I checked from the console and
kde-workspace-data 4.1.2 is installed, so i suppose that the plasmoid package is installed too.

Does someone have a clue ?

    Code:
    apt-get install -f
was the first thing i tried, everything looks fine
there are no broken dependencies also...
the upgrade went smooth, after i removed the above
    mentioned packages...

I'm pretty new to kde4, just installed 8.10 a couple of days ago...
Could you tell me where to find a list of the plasmoids i have to
remove, i didn't add any new ones, atleast i think so...

edit: just checked for the old plasmoid packages and all
plasmoid-* packages are already removed, the problem has to
    be something else...

      This happened to me.

I chose recovery mode in the GRUB boot menu.

Then I chose the DPKG option in the next menu.

Then I said Y to everything it asked me.

When it was done I rebooted and everything was fine and I had KDE 4.2!
