    Configuring KDE3 apps without kcontrol

Alright I figure I take this over to the kubuntu forums as I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 with kde 4.2 installed and you guys might be better with it then the normal ubuntu forums.
Anyhow here is my issue, after I have installed KDE 4.2 kcontrol from kde3 is removed... I try to reinstall it and get dependency crap.
The thing is I still use some KDE3 apps like K3B and Kxmame, I cant configure them without Kcontrol when kcontrol cant be installed!
Now I have tried qt3config but it does very little, it has no color theme support or any way to change my icons.
So I ask is there any other way I can configure my kde3 apps?
    A file I can edit?
    A command I can run?
Now I have looked this up but I see no viable replies that are helpful, heck most of them say:
Systemsettings replace Kcontrol, systemsettings is the new kcontrol...
I reply with a big fat DUH!
I knew that already but systemsettings only configures KDE4 NOT KDE3!!!
There must be a way to configure my kde3 apps without kcontrol...

Take a look at FAQ: Control Centre vs. System Settings , particuarly, the section titled CLI Magick

Yeh but it seems that kcmshell is missing...

        It does exist:
        /usr/bin/kcmshell

But this was the KDE 3.5.x application, and there are no 3.5 applications for it to run:
        kcmshell --list
        The following modules are available:

        But, there is kcmshell4:
        /usr/bin/kcmshell4

kcmshell4 --list shows many modules you can run.
