Have tried dpkg --configure -a and apt-get -f install without success, it would be nice to have KOffice as I do like to keep thing's KDE where possible.

Indeed, the same happens on my system.
We'll probably be best off with some patience.

Be really careful with this command, but:

      sudo dpkg --install --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/koffice-data-kde4_1%3a1.9.98.5-0ubuntu1~intrepid1_all.deb

(all that should be on one line)
      Then, to complete your installation:

      sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

This will force overwriting of the bothersome file and should complete your ins
      tallation.
The problem is that the same file has been included in 2 packages.
Today's release seems to have fixed it.

Because you did the --force install without problems I took the plunge as well and indeed all is well.
Meaning the Kubuntu repositories have not yet been updated with a fixed version of KOffice.
