fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10 [solved]
Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
I wish I could but it is sa small that I cant read what's on screen so I just can't change anything from the apearance screen!
is it possible to do something with a command line?
Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
You could try logging out, then renaming your .kde folder, then logging back in. The .kde folder will be rebuilt with system defaults and that might fix the issue.
Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
This happened to me as well after enabling the nvidia restricted drivers. If you know how to edit a text file from the command line you can do the following.
in ~/.kde/share/config/kcmfonts
change or add the line
forceFontDPI=90
This should get you a usable situation and then you can fine tune from the system settings gui.
Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
thanx guys for your answer, unfortunately I don't have the kcmfonts file and I can't rename the .kde folder as the system tells me that it's not a folder!
any other idea?
Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
kcmfonts is located in:
~/.kde/share/config
It's owned by you, the user.
Open any editor. Open the file ~/.kde/share/config/kcmfonts

Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
thanx snowhog for your answer, but are you talking about KDE4 because I still can't find the file you are talking about even when logged as a user.
I created the kcmfonts file though but things remain the same....
Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
You're posting in Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, so you are running KDE 4.1.4 (if you are up to date), or KDE 4.1.96 (rc1) if you are running the release candidate of KDE 4.2.
You said you did rename the .kde folder. Check in this renamed folder, then the sub-directory of share/config. You should find the kcmfonts file there. But, as you say you created this file, where did you put it, and what does it contain? My default kcmfonts file contains the following:

Re: fonts ridiculously small after upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10
Thanks guy,
I didn't have the file but I created it in the ~/.kde/share/config folder on the same pattern as yours snowhog.
Now it is working with forceFontDPI=90
