acpi problem

Hey all,
I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 on a Toshiba M200 Tablet PC. The trouble is: When I don't have it connected to a power source (i.e. when it's using the battery) at about 75% battery level it tells me the battery's empty. I don't even have time to connect a power source or save any of my work, since the computer almost immediately hibernates (with errors, though) and can't be rebooted to the same state. I have no idea what's going on here. Do you?

Interestingly enough I don't have that problem when using WinXP. There I have enough time to prepare for a good hibernate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Cliowa

Look at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/toshiba.html where there are 2 M200 Debian installs. The first one mentions Battery conservation and the laptop-mode-tools package which is available in *buntu.

Then look at http://tuxmobil.org/toshiba.html where there are 12 M200 installs including one Toshiba Portégé M200/M205 tablets on Ubuntu Linux - which mentions Suspension/Hibernation

thanks for those links, there's some useful stuff there.

concerning the original problem: it still doesn't work. I've gone through many steps, looked through configuration files and loaded extra kernel modules, but I didn't find what I wanted. Maybe this is my fault, I'm not a linux expert.

As far as I understand there are 3 problems:
1) The battery monitor is wrong, i.e. the battery is empty, when the display says it's 70% full.
2) It seems the power manager is surprised by the fact that the battery is suddenly empty and then leaves me no time to connect a power source and save my work.
3) Hibernation does not work.

I can easily live with 3) or install a "manual" fix. That doesn't bother me

As far as 1) and 2) are concerned I still have no idea how to solve them. What governs the time left until automatic hibernation, when the battery is empty? Where can I adjust the time when I get a warning?
