How do I install mediaplayer11gold dont no what application to use to open it

    Re: media player11

You mean Real Media Player 11 gold? You might be able to install and run it if you have Wine installed but don't expect it to run as well as it will on windows.

However, if you enable the medibuntu repositories you will be able to install realplayer via your package manager as there is a linux version for that.

If you are referring to Windows media player 11 gold (confusing yes?) then again you might get it to install and run using wine, although your package manager includes a multitude of applications that will do everything it can do, and probably more. A linux version of WMP 11 Gold? Probably when hell has frozen over (and the world is in Global Warming stage at the mo).

There is a .bin file for real player that can be used on linux without using wine.
you can download it from here,
      http://www.real.com/linux
after downloading that go to the downloaded folder by terminal and type,

      sudo ./RealPlayer11GOLD.bin
then give your user password when asked.

It will install real player. To run that you may find it in the Applications->Multimedia

There's a ".deb" version on that link that installs in seconds and works fine.

I just installed it and it works fine on my AMD64 although I had to use dpkg --force-architecture as it is 32 bit.

Real Player can not play Video files like .avi .mpg, can it?. I used MPlayer for that although it is not as good as Real player, I have only that to play videos. And it have the ability to show subtitles which is really good for watching movies.

But I'm searching for a more efficient player which will have various options like jetAudio in windows. I heard that KMPlayer is good!!! Do anyone know about it, please let me know hows it feel like. I will be really greatful if you mention a good site That I can download it(with .deb extension, they are really easy huh!! )

              Thanks.

IIRC KMPlayer is a KDE front end for Mplayer so I'm not sure you will find any extra functionality (although I'll be glad to be proved wrong!)

I've not used it myself for a while, but VLC tends to get rave reviews so that might fit your needs. It will already be in the repos so just install and try.

Yeah, I've also heard of VLC but it's eating memory, isn't it? I have 256MB of memory so I can not bear it at all!!!
But I will give a try for it. Thanks. 8)
