    deleted /root/etc/apt source.list

new to kubu, just got fed up with windows.
i was trying to get a mouse controller called btnx to work, and in doing so some how my source list got messed up, then deleted. i have a old and a saved version, but i cant edit the root/etc/apt folder to create a new one.

    any help appreciated.
feel free to tell me what a idiot i've been.

    Thanks
    Daniel

    Re: deleted /root/etc/apt source.list

You need root /1/ rights to edit /etc/apt/sources.list.

If you have a backupfile, you could copy with the sudo /2/
    Code:
    sudo cp <SOURCE> <DEST>
or you could use graphical sudo /2/ with the kate text editor. Press Alt+F2 and type:
    Code:
    kdesudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list

    /1/ > What is root

    /2/ > Rootsudo
    Before you edit, BACKUP !

Because you deleted the original file, you were able to copy (cp) your backup copy to where it needed to be.

I reckon I read the same article recently... btnx is that programme to enable extra buttons for the mouse, right?

It looked interesting but I only have a bog standard three button furry friend here so never looked into it. How did you attempt to install it/did it come as a deb or simply a tar.gz?

                About btnx

Good and bad news. Bad news first. Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, which is to be released in October, breaks the foundations that btnx was built on. It seems that the kernel input event pipes can no longer be read. It is most likely related X.Org v.7.4. This means I will stop all development of btnx....
