Hello, I've tried searching for something that could help me but so far have come up with nothing and i'm slowly running out of patience .
I'm running Kubuntu 8.10 from a portable external hard drive (400GB) because I occasional take it with me and use it on other computers/laptops wile traveling. But when I'm home I run it off my Dell Dimension 8300:
Pentium 4 3.0GHz (with Hyper Threading)
1 GB RAM
H.I.S. IceQ3 Radeon HD 3850 512MB Graphics Card
The problem is that desktop performance on the Dell is exceptionally poor. I suspected that it was the graphics drivers since I had similar issues in windows before.
I can't get the Graphics Drivers that support H.I.S. graphics cards on Linux (H.I.S. Driver downloads section on their website never loads and its been like that for weeks). Desktop performance actually worsens after installing the ATI/ADM proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (the only option listed in Hardware Drivers Installer and Envy). Regular ATI graphics drivers Do Not work or install (at all/correctly) with H.I.S. modified cards so something like that was to be expected (it was worth a shot though ).
I'm a little lost on what to do next so I am asking if there is anyone who is having similar problems or knows how to fix this.
