    Burning DVD ISO images

How is that we are at 8.10 and yet we still can't burn an ISO image faster than 4.x speed?
This has been a problem as far back as Hardy, so far as I can tell.

I'm seeing this on Hardy and Intrepid, K3B under KDS 3..x and 4.x and Brasero in Gnome.

This is not a hardware issue - unless 4 separate PCs and 3 separate DVD writers could have failed in only this one aspect.

This is the log from KDE 3 on Hardy useing K3B forced to 12x on an external LG 20x burner.
I get the same results with a fresh install of Intrepid.
I get the same results with Brasero under Gnome from Ubuntu 8.10

Forgive me my frustration, but.... well?? I'm tired of coastering DVD's, and KDE 4 in Intrepid has made me pretty testy today overall.

      Re: Burning DVD ISO images

Again, I apologize for the tacky comments due to the frustration.

I had spent most of yesterday searching out some form of 8.10 that would copy and burn a DVD.

My preferred tool of choice is k9copy and k3b.

After lengthy issues yesterday, I have found that the following order of events seems to help both the copy and burn process:

Fresh install of Kubuntu 8.10 from DVD image.
      Update
Activate Medibuntu repositories for libdvdcss2 and w32codecs
      Update
      Install k9copy
      Install DVD::rip

It appears that DVD::rip has a number of dependencies, some of which overwrite existing packages.
As there is a large number of packages downloaded with DVD::rip, I'm not sure which contains the magic bullet for copying.

k9copy works for 9 to 5 DVD copy and conversion.

As for the burn with k3b -- after this, I could do 4.x speed burns.
I had long ago resigned myself to the limitations of the 4.x speed as outlined by the above link - that's a whole issue on its' own. Not sure why we have to be stuck with running 20x burners at 4x.
