That's a good idea. Maybe I should have mine in my .sig?

    I am running:
    Linux x86_64
    Kubuntu 8.10
    KDE 4.1.3
    Nvidia driver 177.80
    xorg ver. 1.5.2

Ooo 3 installed from the debs... Ooo 2.4 uninstalled - I used Synaptice and just 'removed' it. I selected the OO 2.4 core package... and selected 'remove.'

    I don't know how to add/install KDE 4.2 beta. ?

      @Kbunt
You can install kde 4.2 beta 2 from here http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-4.2-beta-2

I notice that your nvidia driver is 177.80, if you install the 180 beta driver as per my earlier post, this solves all the graphics issues I had when using 177.

If you install 4.2 from the link above, remember that this will replace your current 4.1.

Re: GRAPHIC PROBLEMS USING OPEN OFFICE

I tried to install kde-nightly (neon project) but I have got the same problems, in addition now the akregator (kde feed reader) doesn't work fine. I'm afraid that the driver 180 + OO3.0 could cause more problems because I don't know the procedure. do you have any suggestion ??

I'm also in the same boat. Definitely do not want to venture too far off the beaten path. If I manually install the latest nvidia driver, can I easily uninstall it should there be a problem?

Re: GRAPHIC PROBLEMS USING OPEN OFFICE

Hi guys , I have installed nvidia driver 180.06 on my system, wonderful everything works fine now . I have OO 2.4 too and works fine. The previously graphic problems are disappeared and all is ok. Before I had nvidia driver 177.82.
Anyway I don't understood the following situation . From K menu:

System->NVIDIA X Server Settings/X Server Information reports NVIDIA Driver Version 180.06
            but if check on
System->Hardware Drivers: here I find the message "no proprietary drivers are in use on this system" and I find only the following two driver: NVIDIA version 173 and NVIDIA version 177 (recommended) not activated. strange ! Why I don't find the driver 180 here and which driver is running now ??
do you have any explanation ??

            thanks

            my system:

            nvidia card GeForce Go 7300
            nvidia driver 180.06 installed

Re: GRAPHIC PROBLEMS USING OPEN OFFICE

sandro54, this was one of my concerns. Should more issues be found with 180, can the 'old' 177.82 driver be reactivated?

Also, try running the game Extreme Tux racer. The video went into a mode my LCD couldn't support and reported it 'out of range'. I'm not sure what mode the game is starting in, but it shouldn't be greater than my desktop (1280x1024).

I think I might wait until more people experiment with this. I'm pretty happy with my current setup and don't want to blow it up with a new video driver that I can't back out. You obviously have more courage than I.

Re: GRAPHIC PROBLEMS USING OPEN OFFICE

sure you can reactivate it, you just have to reinstall the 177 (after downloading from repository) with the same procedure used for installing the 180.

[SOLVED] Re: GRAPHIC PROBLEMS USING OPEN OFFICE

To solve this problem just update your nvidia drivers to 180.06, it works both with openoffice 2.4 and openoffice 3.0:

                  http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d...32_180.06.html

follow the instructions listed to update the driver
