    Sound Problems [Resolved]

This is bizarre. The login and logout sounds play, as well as other system sounds, but I have no audio when playing videos through Dragon Player, Kaffeine or VLC. I've opened Kmix and tried playing with the sliders and made sure stuff was not muted.

I don't know where else to go to troubleshoot this problem. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Nevermind. I remembered the alsamixer utility, so I checked it and the PCM slider was all the way down. Why would that be? And why wasn't Kmix changing it properly? Very bizarre.

Crud. I upgraded to KDE 4.2 beta and I'm running into the same problem. However, the alsamixer utility is gone, so I can't fix it. Any thoughts?

Can't you install alsamixer? The alsa-utils package seems to have it and you can launch it from the command line.

Fixed this, too. I had to install alsamixer from Synaptic. Strangely, installing it from Adept did not work. It said it was installed, but it wasn't. Synaptic installed it correctly. As soon as it was installed, all was well again.
