    TightVNC Walk Through

    Hi all,

I am familiar with UltraVNC. I have it setup and working on my windows computers with the router setup (ports needed are open) and I also use DynDNS for my public IP.

I have read some posted "Tutorials" for TightVNC, but they are all in Chinese to me.

It looks like UltraVNC doesn't support Linux, so I would like to try TightVNC.

    http://www.tightvnc.com/download.html says:

    Platform: Unix / Linux
    File: tightvnc-1.3.9_unixsrc.tar.bz2
Description: Unix source code in Tar+Bzip2 archive

    */*/*/*/*/*/*/*/*

    Platform: Unix / Linux
    File: tightvnc-1.3.9_unixsrc.tar.gz
Description: Unix source code in Tar+Gzip archive

    Which one should I install?
Whatever you guys suggest, how on Earth do I install it? What do I suppose to do with the file?

If someone could please walk me through it step by step.
Bear with me guys, I am new to Linux so English please, not Chinese

    I have Kubuntu 8.10
The idea is to be able to remotely access my Kubuntu box from anywhere.

    Thanks in advance.

Use Adept, don't compile the source code. Search for tightvnc or tightvncserver and that should get you started.

I'll give that a try and see what happens.

      Thanks for your response.
