Replaced KDE 4.1.3 with KDE 4.2 Beta1

Just went the whole hog, and installed Kde 4.2 beta1 over 4.1.3 using the following repo:
Code:
deb [url]http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-experimental/ubuntu[/url] intrepid main
All I can say at the moment is NICE!
Kubuntu 10.10 64bit
KDE 4.5.3
Kernel: 2.6.35.22 generic
Nvidia Driver: 260.19.06
Dell Dimension 9200 - Core 2 Duo 6300 - 3GB Ram
Nvidia Geforce 7900GS

Linux user since March 2004
Linux user #526793

Thanks for the link...
Anyway I installed it and I must say it's really cool. It's much better than KDE4.1!
I did experience some difficulties while installing; I had some errors, but everything seems to be working fine.
Only few of plasmoids are not "there" yet, like the weather plasmoid crashes when I set it...
And it quite hard managing activities as the button in zoom out mode doesn't work right....
But hey its bet think how the real thing will look like!

I've tried the same and so far just get presented with a nice black screen when i log in. kde 4.1 worked just fine and the upgrade didn't throw any errors so am a bit stumped. have tried clearing out ~/.kde inc ase it was a config file problem but to no avail. as far as i can tell kde is loading in some form as i get some notifications pop up from network manager when it loads.. nothing however works, not even calling programs from the command line, they all seem to throw messages related to dbus.
Any thoughts anyone?

To ian: Sorry I can't help.
But I'm here to warn about some problems this is beta you know...
Before updating I used a custom color theme that I downloaded from KDE-look, and now I can't change anything under Appearance.
It has to do with kcm_library that is apparently missing. It says that this is due to outdated ("rejected") system ("overview") module.
And that I should try to resolve it by hand, but I have no idea where to look at.
Also I can't arrange widgets on newly added activity.

So you've been warned...
(still if anyone knows how to fix the appearance problem, any help is welcome!)

Google "ubuntu dbus" and you'll see lots of stuff.

This seems most recent and relevant:

KWin is now on the same level as Compiz and this is only KDE4.2 beta!
I wonder how the KDE4.5 will lok like 8)

For those not quite as daring, the project neon version of kde4.2 is also available, and will not kill your 4.1 setup.

As far as i can tell the problem is more with kde, for example there seems to be no plasma process running but manually starting one doesn't work, gives an error about kephald (?) i'm wondering if any of the problem could be related to having had kde-nightly installed.. will see if i can work out a way to force any installed packaged to downgrade to the highest currently available version having removed the nightly repositories.

I had the kde-nightly installed but I removed it prior to installing 4.2 beta1 over 4.1.3. At the present moment I have not experienced any problems. It was because I found kde-nightly to be fairly stable on my system I went for the upgrade route. Early days yet, but I have found it to be more stable than kde-nightly on my system.

Oh, and this is not my testing machine but my production one, although I am not suggesting everyone should try it on their production machine.

Having changed I almost can't remember all the characteristics of 4.1.
