You might want to consider adding the medibuntu repo instead... that way you'll get the updates and such...

Or use:
http://packages.medibuntu.org/intrepid/mplayer.html
if you wish. The .deb's are at the bottom.

I should also mention that medibuntu might not be using the most stable versions, but for an app such as mplayer you are likely better off with this version, and I for one have never had any problems with it.

I had to download a bunch of depedencies and then it worked
