    x-server unstable

Okay, so the Nvidia drivers are hosed, or so I was told in the hardware forum. I can live with that. But the X driver or server I'm using is unstable too. It flickers every 10 to 15 seconds. The a few minutes ago X died and dumped me into console when I tried to run firefox. I did a starx but it died again when I tried to open firefox. I needed to reboot to fix it.

I like KDE 4 but not sure I like it enough to put up with the instability. BTW I checked the logs and couldn't find anything that seemed relevant. I guess I'm just whining so I'll quit here.

Sounds like a messed up xorg.conf, have you run the nvidia-settings program?
Also have you installed the latest nvidia drivers? (177 I think)

I have similar problems. Window Manager keeps crashing intermittently dropping me out to the KDE login screen. Occurs most frequently when scrolling in Firefox.

Im not running Nvidia drivers at all. Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device in a laptop. Was completley stable running every version of Kubuntu that was installed on it (Feisty, Gutsy, Hardy).

Im also experiencing the visual glitch that happens when an app goes full screen.

I had almost identical problems as the OP.

I found that disabling the RANDR service improved things dramatically
