    Two-color desktop background

Under KDE 3 I was able to set the background of a desktop to have two colors, with fading top-to-bottom from one to the other. Under KDE 4 I can't see how to do that. I finally found that I could set the desktop background by right-clicking on it, but there's only a choice of a single color. Has the fade gone away?

And is there a way to choose the background via Settings? I haven't been able to find it.

The easy workaround: Make such an image in any graphics package, then use that image as desktop background.

A bit more work, but it's doable.

      More work

i wonder why the KDE 4 creators took away the ability to do it directly. Sure, it's possible to do it in Gimp or something like that, but if you aren't proficient at Gimp the learning curve is pretty steep.

KDE4 is not feature complete, and will not be for a few versions. That's the reason I've chosen to stick with KDE3 for a while.
