So it has been formatted. Hmm. Does you PC actually have two large HDs, configured using RAID?

          Re: External Hard Drive Help

Something on your system has a squashfs, and it has to be a device. It can't be your USB HD.

Squashfs (.sfs) is a compressed read-only file system for Linux.

Squashfs is used by the Live CD versions of Debian, Finnix, Gentoo Linux, Ubuntu and Fedora and on embedded distributions such as the OpenWRT and DD-WRT router firmware. It is often combined with an union mount filesystem, such as UnionFS or aufs, to provide a read-write environment for live Linux distributions. This takes advantage of both the SquashFS's high speed compression abilities with the ability to alter the distribution while running it from a live CD. Distributions such as Slax, Debian Live and Mandriva One use this combo.
This one has me at a loss. :P

            Re: External Hard Drive Help

maybe it was from the boot up.... just a quess but maybe possible
also... i got a workmates external hd working on my laptop so that definatly rules out my laptop....
no idea what could possibly cause this...
i kinda do think it's something with the os though... maybe because of the hd but.... it works in windows... it works on my eee.... i just don't know what the problem could be

Stick with it. Either you, or some other member here will come up with the answer.

                  Re: External Hard Drive Help

through fourm scouring i found that this problem is caused by loss of support for the iomega hard drive case i have... several different people on various forums have posted the same error with the same device id as mine in this lsusb command specifically:

                  Code:
                  Bus 005 Device 015: ID 059b:0177 Iomega Corp. Hi-Speed USB-to-IDE Bridge Controller
if anyone knows how to install the legacy package from 8.04 could fix this... if even possible... that would be helpful

I'm contemplating also sending this in as a bug, is this a worthy issue for a bug or no?

I have the same problem. My external drive is also an Iomega, I bought it new a few days ago.
Did someone allready find a solution for this problem?

                    Cheers

                      Hello kaizerjd,
I have a Captiva usb external drive.
It is formatted in Vista, I have a dual boot, Vista and intrepid both 64 bit.
I had the same problem, I could not get to my external drive, I found that when in Vista I removed the external safely and then reboot to intrepid, I`m able to get to my external drive.
When I do not remove the external safely in either Vista or Intrepid,I cannot get to my external drive.
