Dudes, I do not know what happen with my webcam. I have an xps m1530 with a webcam which was working before the upgrade. I do not know what happened or how to fix it. Any help.

It seems that the device was lost after the Ubuntu upgrade. When I try the gstreamer-properties it said that the /dev/video0 was not found. Any help.

Look in /dev and see if the designation has changed. This was the case for some with cdrom device designations.

        Snowhug,

Thanks for the quick replay. I tried looking for it inside of that directory and I was not able to find it. I will assume that it has changed. My question would be, what should I do next?

          What shows when you type:
          Code:
          ls -l /dev/vi*

            This is what I got:

            sudo ls -l /dev/vi*
            Password or swipe finger:
ls: cannot access /dev/vi*: No such file or directory

What package did you have installed for your webcam?

To be honest with you, I do not know. I just bought the Dell xps m1530 and it was working back when I had the 8.04 release. But I do not know how come it is not working now.

                  It's a built-in camera?

                      Re: webcam

I think he's typing ls -l /dev/vl* not ls -l /dev/vi*. That should be vi (vee eye) not vl (vee el). Or if this is confusing type
                      Code:
                       ls -l /dev/video*

thanks for clearing that up, but I did understood the what snowhug typed. I really typed the vi not the vI but the video file was not there. I have decided to install ubuntu 8.4 again. I might upgrade later or something. thanks a lot guys
