Amarok in conflict with everything else

    Hi.

After googling for some time, I'll try my luck here...

I have a ASUS P5QL PRO motherboard with Realtek ALC1200 8 channel audio. My speakers are connected to the SPDIF output, in the system settings I've told Kubuntu to use the digital output.

When I tell Amarok to use alsa and default output, the music from Amarok becomes muted if another program plays something (e.g. Skype). If I click on a new song, the music will be back again.

If I tell Amarok specifically to use the digital output, Amarok keeps playing, but I cannot hear anything else while Amarok is playing. I don't understand that...

When I start Dragon, it responds that "HDA Intel (ALC888 Digital)" is not running and it is therefore using the analogue output.

Anyone out there with a good idea what is going wrong? Thank in advance for any help!

I've played around some more and it turns out that the problem apparently is that only one program at a time can use the SPDIF, so it is not an Amarok issue. Any suggestion why that is? I have no problems at all when using the analog output.
