    [Solved]wxWidgets

Has anybody known of any problems with wxWidgets lately? I something back in 2007, but that seems like it would be some time ago. Also, if there are no problems with wxWidgets, I would like to know how to install it. I have it extracted on my Desktop.

    Thanks,

    Re: wxWidgets

First of all, wxWidgets isn't written specifically for Intrepid. Hardy is the latest version of *buntu the maintainers have written it for. That said, it might run under Intrepid. To try, follow the instructions for Installing wxWidgets and wxPython On Ubuntu Or Debian

Step 1 needs to be changed to:
    Code:
    wget [url]http://apt.wxwidgets.org/key.asc[/url] | sudo apt-key add key.asc
Step 2 requires that you edit /etc/sources.list, which you must do as root. Add the following lines exactly:
    # wxWidgets/wxPython repository at apt.wxwidgets.org
    deb http://apt.wxwidgets.org/ hardy-wx main
    deb-src http://apt.wxwidgets.org/ hardy-wx main
    Save and close the file.
After you have performed Step 3, type the following:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --simulate python-wxgtk2.8 python-wxtools python-wxaddons wx2.8-i18n
If no errors are reported (VERY IMPORTANT!) then you can type:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install python-wxgtk2.8 python-wxtools python-wxaddons wx2.8-i18n

Windows no longer obstructs my view.

      Re: wxWidgets for VLC

I am not going to risk it.

So, besides Amarok and VLC, what media player(s) would you recommend. I am looking for one at least with a graphic equalizer.

      Thanks,

Amarok does have a graphic equalizer.

Start Amarok. Click on Tools > Equalizer and check Enable Equalizer. 8)

Amarok also has a pre-amplifier, FYI. I used it to blow a speaker out on my Asus Eee PC 4G/701. Be careful.

On topic: Audacity has all the tools you could wish for, including an equalizer.

Amarok has been (and I reinstalled it just to check) crackliing my music when I press on Stop.

I am going to try several different things from the repository to see which one I like best.

I will have to check out Audacity.

Audacity is really more for recording and editing -- it's not mainly a "player", although it certainly does "play". But you can't make up a playlist and stuff like that, AFAIK.

Look under "Effect". But all options are greyed out until you open a track.

In 2007, using Ubuntu 7.04, I recorded my father's collection of 78rpm records with Audacity and a pile of record-playing hardware. I used the digital speed conversion. I recorded them at 45 rpm, used GWC to clean up the sound, and used Audacity to speed it up to 78rpm. Took about 3 months to do the project.

Have you burned the resulting collection to CDs?

I did burn a lot of it to CDs and passed them out to my siblings and my dad, of course. He passed away last month, but he really enjoyed listening to his old music from the 1930s and 1940s.
