    My computer:

    Amd 32bit 2400+(2GHZ)
    1700 mb ram
    radeon 9600pro

So,is that normal or do I have a driver or any other kind of issue?

    Thanks!

and by the way, this is my xorg.conf file,if that means something to you:

And I am using ati drivers that came with kubuntu, because the ones from ati site didn't work well.

Try kwin-> desktop effects instead. I use it with my ati 9250 radeon and it flies compared with compiz.

Cube, sphere and tube will be included in kde4.2
HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
    4 GB Ram
    Kubuntu 18.10

Well, after an hour of using desktop effects,I have to say it isn't much better. It is kinda better, but surely not good enough.Everything lags! When I select text, open a folder start an aplication....so,I guess my question is still, what can I do?

        @Fintan
        What drivers do you use?

I don't understand how compiz relates to kde 4.x

Doesnt kde 4.x have compositing built in? Does compiz work with kwin or does it take over? Im really confused.

okay, I'm not sure why you have all that cruft in your xorg.conf, but 8.10 X-server has a lot of autoconfiguration built in, so some of those options might be screwing with your setup. Warning, only try this if you don't mind possibly breaking your xorg setup and know how to restore/backup your xorg.conf:

After backing up your xorg.conf, try doing
                  Code:
                  sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
This should reset your xorg.conf back to the basic necessary entries so that you can then place the
                  Code:
                  Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
line in your Device section to enable video playback. That's all I needed on my X1600 Radeon to get desktop effects working well.

Also, I wouldn't use compiz, especially on KDE.

What Fintan means, is under Intrepid Ibex, don't use Compiz. Instead, enable desktop effects.

K Menu > System Settings > Desktop > Desktop Effects > General > Enable desktop effects

Then, wait for KDE 4.2 for the other eye-candy effects.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Well, with help from Rog131 on some other topic,I installed some other drivers, and bam-it works 50% faster! Its the propetery drivers from despository. And I did a reset of xorg file. So,without the effects, the system is really fast! But with them, its realllly slow. So,I guess that is dirct 3d problem?I will try adding theese lines you told me,and then we will see....

I added the EXA line to my xorg file, and it only made everything slower. So,I have to try sopmethingelse...

That exa line enables accelerated video playback, but only with the open source drivers. (closed source don't support that at all).

your card is quite old.. maybe it's just underpowered?
