    KNetworkManager and nVidia closed driver

It's the first time I install Kubuntu (Intrepid, of course), I did it from scratch to avoid any "upgrade issue". All great, really, everything works including the Broadcom (4306 rev. 03, according to lspci) except one detail... When I try to install the nVidia closed driver (my notebook is a HP Pavilion zv5416ea, the video adapter is a GeForce4 420 Go AGP 4x), the kNetworkManager applet menu gets scrambled and I can't read its menu items anymore. Uninstalling the nVidia driver solves the problem, and obviously I did so.
Has anybody any suggestion to allow the nVidia driver installed without affecting the kNetworkManager interface?
    Thanks in advance, best regards.

I'm having a similar problem with a GeForce4 420 so I thought I would piggyback on this post to help the problem be seen more often.

I'm using an older Sony Vaio that has been without an OS for a few years after a bad luck run. A friend of mine managed to put Kubuntu on it for me. Now when I install the driver and restart the system it comes up blank it shows the boot load but at about the time the OS starts displaying anything other than code it turns off the LCD display and I cannot recover visual until I connect an external display and turn off the device and disable the driver.

The new X.org in 8.10 is not compatible with "legacy" Nvidia proprietary drivers, which are required for GeForce 4s and prior chip versions. Officially, you are stuck with the "nv" driver (some users claim they got theirs working, but .....), meaning no 3D for you.

You should get good results with 8.04 -- that's the latest you can go with a proprietary driver.
