I installed 8.10 on my HP pavillion dv9650 laptop a couple of days ago. Now it hangs anywhere from 2 minutes to 6 hours after boot. Each time, it dumps something like the following to /var/log/messages. I am running 2.6.27-3-rt #1 PREEMPT RT Mon Oct 27 03:05:19 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux.
It also hung on the non-rt version of the 2.6.27-7 kernel - with the flashing caps-lock which had been fixable under hardy heron by means of the rt kernel. That problem had been associated with the wifi card, and had been fixed by the rt kernel. I couldn't find a 2.6.27-7-rt kernel, so I went with 2.6.27-3-rt.
