Yeah, there are rough edges, but the speed! Wow!

Still no app icons, but unless this thing starts crashing on me big-time, I might never look back.

By the way, I'm running a Dell Inspiron 630m laptop. 2.1 GHz single core CPU, 1 GB ram, Intel 915 video. Not a speedster by any stretch. The speed increase between this and 4.1.3 is very noticeable.

Since kontact/kmail isn't part of the nightly, I can't get to my e-mail from here. Ah well, back boring old 4.1.3 for me.

the do run command->kontact

Yeah, the speed increase is incredible.

Indeed, it is extremely fast and many of the glitches were removed. I still experience a bit of blurred menus, but overall much better than 4.1.3. On the down side, there is no gtk-qt-engine (and i could not find a way to make it work after many compiling attempts), so Firefox and OpenOffice look quite ugly. Also, akregator cannot connect to fetch feeds and brings cpu usage to 100%.

Yep just had to make sure. Now, when doing daily updates will the fixes/updates/upgrades come down the pipe as normal. Or is it a case of getting a new nightly every so often.

Sometimes yes sometimes no.

I turned my nightly repos off for a while

because thee were some upgrade probs.

Then again it wount inflict with your ii system.

Thanks, Fintan. I actually realized that after I had posted my last message.

I have two oddities, and was wondering if anyone else saw them (really,it's Alpha software):

1) If my screen locks, unlocking it fails.

2) KNetworkManager no longer "nests" into the system tray, in 4.2 or 4.1.x. Weird.

I'm still running 4.2, though. Yum!

has anyone come up with a way to populate kickoff with apps?

The only other major (ok, really minor...) issue I see is on some of the widgets...changing between 'pages' takes forever. To reproduce:

1. from the folder view widget on the desktop, go into the settings.
2. click on a different page icon on the left side.

For me, it takes about 30-45 seconds to actually change pages...does anyone else see this?

I think if I could fix the 'missing applications' issue, or come up with an alternative, I might go to 4.2 full time.

Try running it from "run command" and it should find its way to the systray.

I wound up installing KVPNC because the VPN part of KNetworkManager wasn't working for me. Upon launching KVPNC, it and KNetworkManager both jumped down into the System Tray, and have stayed there happily ever since.
