    Korganizer won't print landscape

Subject pretty much says it all. I upgraded to 8.10 on Friday and today is the first opportunity I've had to print my monthly calendar. Try as I might, I can't get it to print landscape although the settings are correct (ie. 'page orientation' is set to Landscape and under printer properties (last dialog before pressing print, the orientation is also Landscape).

Is anyone else having this issue or is it just me? If it's a problem, has a bug been reported that I can add my comments to?

    Thanks!

I was able to export the monthly calendar as HTML and print with FireFox in landscape but this is less than ideal. I like Korganizer's printed format much better.

For what it's worth, I tried printing the HTML document with Konqueror but it still printed in portrait.

What is the 'default' page orientation for your printer? If it's set to portrait, maybe Korganizer isn't sending the override, or it isn't being accepted?

You can access your printer for setup and configuration through konqueror (or any other browser) by going to:
http://localhost:631/ (Common UNIX Printing System 1.3.9)
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

        Thanks for the reply.

I was able to open the CUPS web page to the printer but didn't see any page orientation settings under 'Set Printer Options'. I have an HP printer and the HP Device Manager was automatically installed under 8.10 (or maybe I had it installed under 8.04). There is a setting in there under the Print Settings tab for page orientation and I set that to Landscape. Tried the monthly calendar print in Korganizer again but it's still printing portrait.

Landscape printing worked fine in 8.04 so something seems to have gone haywire in the upgrade.

        Any other ideas? Thanks!

          Re: Korganizer won't print landscape

I think the problem is in CUPS, as no OO docs want to print in landscape either. My workaround was to first print to PDF in landscape, then I could print the PDF in landscape

Well, that worked! Printed to a PDF from Kontact and then printed in Okular. The odd thing is from Okular, I printed in landscape and the monthly calendar only took up the lower 2/3s of the page. Switched it to portrait and then the calendar filled the page.

Very odd but it's better than the results trying to print landscape from Korganizer!

I did open a bug on this issue:

            https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=174971

but it was closed saying just use the latest SVN version. I'm running KDE 4.1.3 and Korganizer (Kontact) ver. 1.3.

            Thanks.

I did see your bug report, and was going to reopen it, but didn't as I don't think it's a Korganizer bug. I'm getting a funny thing on my calendar printout though - the current month and year is overwriting the small calendar showing the previous month and the year has a thousands separator (2,009) are you getting something like that?

I tried to attach the PDF to show you, but the forum software says it can handle any more attachments. I'll link a screen dump of it later.

Yup, I'm getting that as well. I've got a graphic of it but couldn't upload either due to the forum upload folder being full.

You're probably right about the bug, since OO docs aren't printing in landscape correctly either, it would seem the problem is not with the app.

                Thanks!

Ok, I'll put a bug report up for the overwriting thing - let see if that can get fixed at least.

Have put up a bug report:

I updated cups and libcups2 and korganizer can now print in landscape!

                      Re: Korganizer won't print landscape

Cool! OK, so can you tell me what versions you are running? According to adept on my system:

                      cups: 1.3.9-2ubuntu4
                      libcups2: 1.3.9-2ubuntu4

and I've done apt-get update/upgrade so these are the latest versions from the repository. I still have messed up landscape printing so you must have newer versions? If so, from where?

                      Thanks!

Mine are the same version, but have ubuntu6 at the end. Loaded them off the default South African mirror.

                        Weird??

                          Re: Korganizer won't print landscape

Well, that was interesting. Must have been a time zone thing or the mirror I'm using: 'Server for United States' (?) was not offering those updates when I wrote my previous reply. This morning, when I went to update, there were 18 available, 2 of which were cups and libcups2. So now I have the 6 at the end as well. Sadly, I'm still not able to print in landscape properly ... ?

Just when I thought this problem was about to be resolved! Maybe I'll try to log off/on or a reboot? I would think though that cups was restarted after the update. I'll post back when I come up with anything new.

                          Thanks!

It is. The cups daemon is shut down during an update and then restarted afterwards.
