    strange icon behaviour in tray

Since the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10, icons in the lower right panel system tray applet thing have an erratic problem whereby they display as blocks. Usually clicking them refreshes their display but this is annoying as its hard to figure out what the icon is for when it loses its display.

    Anyone else with this problem?

I think that's a standard problem. I certainly have it. In 4.2 they have rewritten the system tray completely and that issue is supposed to be gone, I believe.

I read that as well (4.2 fixes this issue)...annoying, isn't it!

I have this problem as well and was about to post a message about it until I discovered this thread.

So just adding my .02 worth. Guess we have to wait until January for the fix? 4.2 is still on track for a January release:
