    System settings

    Hi,

I did a full upgrade last night to 8.10 Intrepid Ibex. Didnt work straight away but it did seem to sort itself out eventually. However, today I went into 'System Settings, Display, Advanced settings and selected two of the options - I think one was for thumbnail at side of screen?, cant remember what other one was (some effect when opening window). Anyways, what I have now is a completely black screen. It does appear though something is happening although I dont know what because I cant see it. Unfortunately I cannot deselect the options I have made because I cannot see how to do it. Is there some way I can revert back to my original setting through the console or if there is some other method?

    Thanks

Go directly to the next-to-last post here:

and then back up the "how to mount your USB stick" earlier in the thread, if needed.

      Re: System settings

I had the same problem, apparently its to do with nvidia drivers or something not liking desktop effects.

To fix it on mine I booted into command line from the main Kubuntu login screen, then go to

      nano home/username/.kde/share/config/kwinrc

Then under Compositing changed Enabled=true to Enabled=false

save and reboot and it should be back to normal with desktop effects turned off.

It took me 3 hours of browsing on my mobile phone to find how to do that :P
